Reviewing Your Social Accounts with Purpose: A 15-Minute Tech Audit Checklist

Look, we get it. You’d rather organize your tax receipts by shoe size or scrub grout with a toothbrush than spend thirty seconds clicking around Instagram or Facebook. To you, "the algorithm" sounds like an exotic math disease, and TikTok is just that noise your grandfather clock makes before it gives up the ghost.
But here’s the harsh, caffeinated truth: whether you treat social media like a sacred temple or a radioactive wasteland, your business accounts are sitting out there right now representing you. And right now, they might look like an abandoned 1990s ghost town.
Grab a coffee—or a glass of wine, no judgment here—and give us 15 minutes to dust off the digital spiderwebs.
Reviewing Your Social Accounts: Time Starts Now
Step 1: The "Are We Still at the Same Address?" Bio Check
Your profile bio is the digital equivalent of the sign hanging above your physical front door. If your business moved to Main Street three years ago, but your Instagram bio still proudly lists your home garage or a dead landline, you’re losing customers. Worse, you look like you’re in witness protection.
Phone & Address: Is that phone number actually going to ring the phone sitting on your desk, or does it call your ex-business partner from 2018?
Website Link: Click it. Right now. Does it go to your actual, living website? Or does it pop up a terrifying red "404 Error" screen that frightens potential clients away?
Hours of Operation: If Google or Facebook says you’re open on Sundays, but your front door is deadlocked and dark, people get cranky. Sync them up!
Step 2: Profile Pictures & The Mystery Photo
We’ve all seen it: a company profile picture that is either a pixelated, squint-inducing blob of a logo saved from a 2004 Word document, or a photo of the owner’s golden retriever. While the dog is objectively a very good boy, he probably doesn’t handle your client invoicing.
The Golden Rule of Profile Images: If someone looks at your profile picture on a tiny phone screen and has to hold it two inches from their nose to figure out what it is, it’s time to change it. Use a crisp, high-resolution logo or a clean headshot where you don't look like a mugshot subject.
Step 3: Password Security & The "Who Has the Keys?" Audit
This is where things usually go off the rails for non-tech folks. Who actually owns your Facebook Page? Is it locked behind the personal email account of an intern who left in 2021 to join a touring circus?
If your password is literally Business2024! or Password123, stop reading right now, hang your head in mild shame, and change it.
Admin Roles: Go into your page/account settings and look at who has administrative access. Remove anyone who no longer works for you (politely, or impolitely—just remove them).
Two-Factor Authentication (2FA): Turn it on. Yes, it’s a tiny bit annoying to type in a 6-digit code from your phone once in a while. You know what's way more annoying? Waking up on a Tuesday to find your business page has been hijacked and is now actively advertising knockoff sunglasses in Turkish.
Step 4: Pinned Posts & The "Last Signs of Life" Check
When a prospective customer clicks on your profile, the very first question in their mind is: Is this business still alive?
If your most recent post is wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving... from 2022, they will assume you went bankrupt, retired, or moved to Mars.
The 60-second fix: Pin a post! Most social platforms let you "pin" a key post so it stays stuck to the top of your feed forever, regardless of when you last posted. Pin something timeless:
A summary of your core services.
Your current business hours and contact info.
A friendly welcome message explaining exactly who you help and how to reach you.

Congratulations! You Survived.
You just finished 15 minutes of crucial social media housekeeping without having to learn what a "reels audio trend" is or dance in front of a camera. Now close the tab, step away from the screen, and get back to doing what you actually enjoy—running your business!
If this list has you more intimidated than a surprise CRA tax audit or assembling IKEA furniture without the manual, don't panic. You don't have to become an influencer overnight, just take it one five-minute check at a time, or hand the keys off to someone who actually enjoys clicking around in account settings at GoldStar Business Solutions.
